The Bobcat 773 is a skid steer loader that has been on the market since the year 2000. It has been rated with a 4 star out of 5 rating by most consumers due to its handling, performance and low maintenance. Although there are many different models of the Bobcat 773 it is important to understand that all of them share a similar set of problems. Below I will list out these problems and how to fix each one.

Bobcat 773 Hose Burst
I was digging a hole to put in a concrete pier when my bucket got stuck on the side wall of the hole. I applied a little bit of extra pressure to come out and the bucket finally came loose, but my Bobcat 773 wouldn’t turn left at all. I looked under the hood and saw that one of the hydraulic hoses burst and was leaking fluid. I stopped using the machine and called our mechanic to come out and fix it.
I had been using this Bobcat for about a year before this happened. The machine had about 3 thousand hours on it when it broke down. If you look at the picture, you can see that the rubber hose burst open because it was too old. The hose itself is only about 2 years old, but the metal bands holding it together were rusty and brittle from being outside for so long.
The mechanic replaced both of these hoses with new ones so that they don’t break again anytime soon. All told, this job cost $1,600 including parts, labor and travel time for our mechanic.”
Bobcat 773 Hydraulic Auxiliary Flow
Additional fuel is required for the engine to function properly. If not enough fuel is pumped into the engine, it will run rough and stall. The fuel pump on a Bobcat pushes fuel from the tank to the engine at a steady rate to maintain a proper air-fuel ratio. It is possible for the pump to fail, decreasing the amount of fuel pumped into the engine. In this case, it is necessary to replace it with a new one.
Open the hood of your Bobcat 773.
Locate the fuel lines on each side of the pump.
Disconnect each line by pulling them away from the pump with your hands. Fuel may leak out; have a rag handy to catch any leaks and prevent spills.
Remove the bolts connecting each end of the pump bracket with a ratchet and socket. Lift off the pump bracket, allowing access to both sides of the fuel pump.
Remove any additional bolts holding in place with your hands. This will allow access to each end of the pump body; remove these bolts as well, then pull off each end of the pump body from around each side of the pump assembly with your hands.
Bobcat 773 The Parking Brake
The Bobcat 773 is a skid steer loader that was manufactured in the mid-1990s. The parking brake on these machines is designed to lock the rear wheels of the machine and prevent it from rolling when parked. While this machine has been replaced by more modern models, there are still a good number of them in use. The parking brakes on these machines can be a source of trouble for some owners.
The Bobcat 773 uses a spring-loaded cable assembly with a ratchet mechanism to lock the rear wheels, preventing the machine from rolling when parked. The cable is attached to a lever on the brake pedal control box in the cab. When pressure is applied to the lever, the ratchet mechanism locks into place and prevents movement of the rear wheels.
The most common problem you will encounter with this type of parking brake system is adjustment. Because this system uses a spring-loaded cable to apply pressure to the ratchet mechanism, over time it can become out of adjustment. When this happens, you may find that your parking brake will not hold properly or that it won’t disengage at all when you press the brake pedal in the cab.
Bobcat 773 Fuel Problems
We have a Bobcat 773 Turbo (about 1400 hours) that is having fuel problems. This has been going on for a while but we are fixing to try and fix it. The problem is when it idles it will run fine for 20 to 30 seconds then it will miss, backfire and die. It will start right back up and runs good until you let it idle again and the same thing happens all over again. We have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines from tank to pump, the entire injector pump with new seals and gaskets, injectors, turbo and checked the timing. There are no visible cracks in the air lines or hoses.
The only code that shows up is code 83 which is low voltage. We have checked the battery connections and fuses, we are not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A 773 Bobcat is a good machine if you have to dig on rocky terrain. The thing to do when installing them on rocky ground is look down the hole that you are drilling, and add more weight to the front of the machine if you want to avoid having it tip over. You may want to consider using a different machine other than the 773 if there is standing water and/ or stumps in your work area because this machine does not have a hydrostatic transmission and therefore will be limited when it comes to muddy terrain.
