Check the fan belt`s condition

1. Turn OFF the engine and remove the key.

2. Set the parking brake, chock the wheels and lower the lift arms to the ground.

3. Attach a lifting device to the backhoe frame and raise it so that it is clear of the ground.

4. Remove the left rear wheel, wheel hub, hydraulic motor, hydraulic cylinder and hydraulic hose (See “REMOVING THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AND HYDRAULIC ASSEMBLY” on page 245).

5. Remove the right rear wheel, wheel hub, hydraulic motor and hydraulic cylinder (See “REMOVING THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL AND HYDRAULIC ASSEMBLY” on page 245).

6. Open both sides of the cab doors to allow access to the radiator panel screws.

7. Remove six bolts from each side of the cab door opening and eight screws from either side of radiator panel (Figure 1). NOTE: Do not pull on these screws with too much force or you will break them off in their holes! If you do break them off, use a punch and hammer to drive them out through their holes into the cab interior where they can be more easily removed.

Inspect the cooling system’s pressure cap seal

The pressure cap seal is located on the top of the radiator, and it forms a vacuum seal, keeping the coolant in the cooling system. As you run your machine, coolant heats and expands; the bobcat 763 cooling system pressure cap’s seal prevents that liquid from escaping. If you notice a significant amount of coolant around your radiator, or if your engine is overheating, inspect your bobcat 763 cooling system’s pressure cap seal for leakage.

To inspect:

Step 1: Using a Bobcat tool, remove the bobcat 763 cooling system pressure cap. Be careful when removing this component; it may still be hot.

Step 2: Inspect the rubber gasket at the base of the bobcat 763 cooling system pressure cap for any wear or tear. If you see any damage, replace the pressure cap with a new one from Bobcat Parts Online.

Step 3: Install a new bobcat 763 cooling system pressure cap to prevent future leaks or wear & tear on your machine.

Check that there is adequate air flow through the engine compartment

Check that there is adequate air flow through the engine compartment. Check for excessive dirt build up around the cooling fans, radiator and hoses. If you find excessive dirt build up do not attempt to remove it by blowing it out with compressed air or water. This can cause damage to electrical components in the engine compartment. Dirt build up may be removed by using a vacuum cleaner.

Take out debris from the engine compartment

When you’re using a Bobcat 763 to lift heavy loads, you’re bound to encounter some issues. The most common problem is overheating of the radiator. This can be fixed by taking out some debris from the engine compartment.

Step 1: Park the machine on a flat surface, with the bucket and auxiliary hydraulics facing up. Turn off the key and wait for five minutes until the engine has cooled off before you start working on it.

Step 2: Open the hood and remove any debris from around the radiator. Use a shop vacuum if necessary

Step 3: Use compressed air to blow away debris that is blocking airflow at the bottom of the fan shroud.

Step 4: Locate and remove debris that might be blocking airflow to or from the radiator.

Step 5: Power up your machine, and check for any leaks that could be blocking coolant flow, as this could be another reason why your engine is overheating.

Clean or replace the engine oil cooler core

Start the engine and let it idle until it reaches normal operating temperature.

Park the machine on a level surface, shut off the engine and remove the key.

Place a large drain pan beneath the bobcat’s oil cooler core. The oil cooler core is located at the bottom of the engine, in front of the oil filter housing. Remove the oil drain plug by turning it counterclockwise with an adjustable wrench or socket and ratchet. Allow all of the old engine oil to drain into the drain pan.

Clean any debris or dirt from around the oil cooler core using a clean shop rag. Remove any bolts that secure the oil cooler core to its mounting bracket using a socket and ratchet, then pull the oil cooler core from its mounting bracket.

Inspect both sides of the oil cooler core for cracks or other damage. If there is any damage, replace it with a new one.

Clean any debris from inside of the mounting bracket using a clean shop rag and compressed air if needed. Wipe out any debris from inside of the new oil cooler core using a clean shop rag and compressed air if necessary. Lubricate both sides of an O-ring with clean motor oil, then install it in one side of the new oil cooler core.

Check for any blockages in hoses

I left behind my Bobcat 763 manual and am wondering if anyone can help me out with some routine maintenance I want to do. The last time I used it the hydraulics were acting a little strange… kind of slow and jerky when I was operating the controls. I’m guessing there is a problem with either the hydraulic fluid or one of the hoses…

I’d like to check for blockages in the hoses and it seems like changing the hydraulic fluid is easy enough if it’s needed… does anyone know if there are any tricks to doing these things? I’m hoping there’s someone out there that can help me out!
