komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators-Tier 4 Final emissions regulations

Komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators are built for extreme conditions and feature a Tier 4 Final engine that uses selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment to meet emissions regulations. The machines in the 10,000- to 12,000-pound class have an operating weight of 28,600 pounds, an overall length of 35 feet, 4 inches, a tail swing radius of 10 feet, 6 inches and a dig depth of 19 feet, 11 inches.

The excavators use the Komatsu SAA6D107E-2 engine with 149 horsepower at 1,900 rpm, which meets Tier 4 Final without a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or regeneration needed. This provides contractors with minimal maintenance costs and more time on the job site.

The PC290LC-11 is equipped with a new electronically controlled hydraulic pump that boosts cycle times up to 8% over the PC240LC-11 model. To reduce fuel consumption during auxiliary attachment use by up to 18%, the new excavator can automatically adjust engine speed based on hydraulic flow pressure and flow rate.

komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators-Boom wear resistant plates

The new PC290LC-11 excavator combines proven Komatsu technology with a few new innovations that make it the best of its kind for challenging conditions, the company says.

Features of the new Komatsu PC290LC-11 include:

High strength steel. All the major components in the undercarriage and upper structure are made from Komatsu’s proprietary high strength steel, which is lighter than standard steel while maintaining strength and durability. This allows for a more compact machine design with reduced weight and improved performance.

Boom wear resistant plates. The boom has wear resistant plates to protect against damage. The innovative design extends up to 2 in. above the bottom of the boom to protect against wear and tear during heavy digging applications.

Komatsu engine protection system (KEPS). This system monitors and controls engine parameters in real time, allowing the engine to operate at peak efficiency while protecting critical components from wear or damage.

Komatsu hydraulic system technology (KHST). A combination of pumps and valves work together to deliver high torque at low revolutions per minute (rpm) in order to increase productivity and minimize fuel consumption.

komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators-Engine and hydraulic overhaul program

Komatsu America Corp. has announced the availability of a new maintenance-friendly engine and hydraulic overhaul program for the PC290LC-11 SLF excavator. The program minimizes downtime for customers, and provides full coverage for engine and hydraulics with extended warranty options.

The PC290LC-11 SLF is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D107E-2 Tier 4 Final engine that is EPA certified. The powertrain is designed to work together to meet Tier 4 Final standards without the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).

A key advantage of the engine overhaul program is that the customer knows all components are covered, including engine major components, turbocharger, cooling system, oil cooler, fuel system, injection pump and injectors. In addition, main and pilot hydraulic pumps, control valves and hydraulic cylinders are also included.

The overhaul is available for machines with less than 6,000 hours or at five years from date of delivery (whichever comes first). It can be purchased as a one-time payment or financed through Komatsu Financial.

komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators-Greater Reliability

Komatsu’s PC290LC-11 hydraulic excavator is built for extreme conditions.

The PC290LC-11 provides 11 percent greater reliability, 10 percent more fuel efficiency and increased operator comfort while maintaining the power, digging force and lift capacity of its predecessor, according to Komatsu.

An upgraded engine and hydraulic system use less fuel while providing ample power for challenging jobsites. The standard engine has Tier 4 Final certification and Komatsu’s selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, which means the engine does not require a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This reduces maintenance costs by eliminating the need for a DPF regeneration process.

The engine control unit (ECU) automatically optimizes engine performance based on operating conditions, and a new engine warm-up mode increases oil pressure to help protect the machine during start up in cold weather. The ECO gauge on the monitor shows operators when they are operating at peak efficiency, prompting them to modify their operation as needed.

komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators-Hydraulic system improvements for better performance

Komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators are built for extreme conditions with a focus on productivity, fuel efficiency and operator comfort, according to the manufacturer.

Komatsu says the machines incorporate an improved hydraulic system for greater performance. The hydraulic system includes a variable displacement piston pump, two gear pumps and two travel motors. The machines also feature redesigned travel motors with a lower number of components and enhanced sealing for reduced maintenance costs and downtime.

The excavator’s central lubrication system is designed to keep the machine running smoothly in harsh conditions. This system delivers automatic centralized lubrication to all key components – including pins, bushings and links – through a central point, eliminating the need for manual lubrication at each component individually.

The PC290LC-11 features Komatsu’s latest engine technology to save fuel without sacrificing performance. The excavator is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D107E-2 engine that meets Tier 4 Interim emission regulations using cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) technology without needing to add urea.

komatsu PC290LC-11 SLF excavators-Komatsu’s exclusive intelligent machine control technology

Komatsu America Corp. has announced the availability of Komatsu’s exclusive intelligent machine control technology on its PC290LCi-11 and PC290NLCi-11 intelligent Machine Control (iMC) large excavators. The iMC large excavators are designed to help customers increase productivity, reduce costs and improve safety on jobsites in the most demanding conditions, including those in waste, recycling, general construction and heavy highway applications.

Komatsu first introduced iMC technology to the construction industry in 2013 with the introduction of its D61i-23 dozer. Since then, Komatsu has continued to expand iMC offerings across its product lineup and has delivered more than 5,500 iMC equipped machines worldwide.

“The PC290LCi-11 and PC290NLCi-11 large excavators continue our tradition of offering innovative machine control technology that can tackle the toughest jobs,” said Bill Fisher, Komatsu America Corp. senior vice president of sales and product support. “Our exclusive intelligent Machine Control technology is now available on a range of products with operating weights from 7 to 844 tons (6.4 to 765 t).”
