Komatsu PC490LCi-11-The Komatsu PC490LCi-11 excavator has been updated with intelligent Machine Control 2.0

The Komatsu PC490LCi-11 excavator has been updated with intelligent Machine Control 2.0 (IMC2.0) and an optional two-way dozer blade. The operator can now choose between IMC2.0, GPS or conventional manual control to suit the application, while the redesigned cab offers more space and improved visibility.

Redesigned cab

The cab features a new HVAC system that controls airflow without a blower fan, reducing noise and vibration, along with an air suspension seat and adjustable armrests that can be raised up to 50mm to help the operator achieve a comfortable working position.

The large glass area provides improved visibility all around the machine, while the side windows are now 10% larger than on previous models. A wider entry door improves access in and out of the cab, and there is also more legroom for taller operators. The rear-view camera helps give extra visibility when reversing and is displayed on a 12in monitor in the cab alongside images from two other cameras mounted at the rear of the machine.

A redesigned FOGS guard system provides better operator visibility with increased coverage from below eye level to above head height, while the panels are easier to remove for cleaning or replacement.

The PC490LCi-11 boiler is made from antiskid, high-strength steel. The excavator can be equipped with the Komatsu Hybrid system that reduces fuel consumption by up to 20% and CO2 emissions by up to 35%.

The PC490LCi-11 is equipped with a new 6-cylinder engine that meets Tier 4/Stage V emission regulations. A low engine speed of 1,500 rpm combined with the Komatsu Hybrid system reduces noise and vibration, increasing operator comfort and reducing fatigue.

The cab design ensures maximum operator visibility. The cab is positioned in the center of the machine for greater stability and a wider field of view.

The PC490LCi-11 is equipped with a new Komatsu SmartLoader Logic control system that automatically optimizes engine power and hydraulic flow according to the application. It also features automatic idling control that reduces engine speed when not working.

Komatsu added a front facing camera for their intelligent Machine Control 2.0 update.

Komatsu announced an upgrade to their Intelligent Machine Control system, which now features a front-facing camera. The new feature, called Visual Guidance 2.0, is a welcome addition for operators of dozers, excavators, motor graders and wheel loaders.

Not only does the system use GPS to guide the machine in three dimensions, but the new camera system helps ensure accuracy during rough grading or final trimming.

The 4 cameras on the front of the machine give operators a 360-degree field of view from the cab. Operators can also switch between views to choose the best one for their work site and application.

The Komatsu Visual Guidance 2.0 system is another step toward fully autonomous heavy equipment. Current systems already include grade control systems that use sensors and GPS to automate many aspects of grading.

The PC490LCi-11 is the world’s first 48-ton, fully integrated intelligent machine. Equipped with Komatsu’s iMC (Intelligent Machine Control) technology, it provides unmatched efficiency and accuracy on the jobsite. The PC490LCi-11 comes in two different configurations, each designed to meet specific customer needs:

The PC490LCi-11 has a Tier 4 Final Komatsu engine that uses a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). It includes an auto-idle shutdown system that automatically shuts down the engine after a preset period of idle time to reduce fuel consumption and noise.

The pre-filters can be cleaned and reused, and the main filters are changed out only as needed. The PC490LCi-11 also features a dust discharge system that collects dust from its cab through a duct in the floor and discharges it on top of the excavator’s track frame.

Cab comfort

The PC490LCi-11 comes with Komatsu’s Smart Load Monitoring System (SLM) that monitors loads on its bucket teeth to prevent overloading, improving controllability and safety. SLM provides audible and visual warnings when the bucket is loaded too much, and shows the operator maximum load capacity on its monitor.

Komatsu’s standard electronics include KOMTRAX Plus, which provides real-time machine monitoring as well as fuel consumption data sent wirelessly via satellite directly to a secure website accessible only by owners of Komatsu equipment.

The PC490LCi-11 is powered by Tier 4 Final engine technology using diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) along with an after-treatment device to meet emissions regulations.

The joystick pump flow control system on the PC490LCi-11 improves work efficiency and fuel economy by minimizing wasted pump flow to hydraulic cylinders that are not being used

The joystick pump flow control system on the PC490LCi-11 improves work efficiency and fuel economy by minimizing wasted pump flow to hydraulic cylinders that are not being used.

When using the machine’s boom, arm, or bucket, an operator usually uses the thumb joystick to operate only one hydraulic cylinder at a time. Using this system, the PC490LCi-11 automatically adjusts hydraulic pump flow to only those cylinders being operated. Only the amount of oil needed for the active cylinder is sent from the pump, so oil isn’t wasted on unused cylinders.

The Komatsu PC490LCi-11 excavator uses artificial intelligence to enhance its performance and can help optimize the use of attachments, as well as reducing fuel consumption by up to 20 percent.

The excavator is equipped with a suite of sensors that scan the environment around the machine and track where it has been digging. The computer analyzes this data in real time, and uses it to guide the machine’s operation. As a result, operators can work more efficiently, and achieve better results, whether they are skilled or inexperienced.
